WASHINGTON, June 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Monday, June 19, 2006, experts from the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill (NPLAC)—in conjunction with representatives from several other organizations—will hold a symposium to address why the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research is ethically, morally and financially corrupt. The event will include information on the latest advancements and successes in adult and cord blood stem cell research, and will include a thorough analysis of the bills currently under consideration by the U.S. Senate to federally fund this work, including the controversial Santorum-Specter “compromise” bill.
The seminar—which begins at 10 a.m. and will be held in the Senate Caucus Room (SR-325) in the Russell Senate Office Building—is being offered as an educational tool for senators and their staff as they consider this all-important legislation.
“To date, embryonic stem cell research has failed to produce one successful treatment. Conversely, adult and cord blood stem cell research has yielded over 65 successful treatments, including curing diabetes in some patients,” stated Dr. Paul Chaim Schenck, director of NPLAC. “A Senate vote to fund ESCR or these so-called ‘compromise bills’ would not only set up an unnecessary slippery slope and be morally bankrupt, but from an investment perspective would be an act of gross negligence.”
